SlidesAI vs Decktopus: Which Route Reaches a Real .pptx?

SlidesAI works inside PowerPoint and Google Slides, while Decktopus exports an editable PPT on paid plans. We compare their routes, free access and documented limits.

SlidesAI and Decktopus both sell AI presentation generation and both name PowerPoint in their export menus. They differ in where the work happens. SlidesAI puts its generator inside PowerPoint and Google Slides as an add-on, so the deck is a .pptx from the first slide. Decktopus builds the deck in its own editor and exports a PPT afterwards. This comparison applies the PowerPoint AI Review Lab route and limits rubric, linked from methodology. The result is part of the 2026 ranking.

An AI PowerPoint generator, here, is a tool whose output is an editable .pptx. Web-only decks that share a link are not part of the test.

Verdict first

On the method, SlidesAI scores 100.0 and Decktopus scores 72.0. The gap is the route. Decktopus’s free first deck cannot be exported, so the route is paid, which scores 60. SlidesAI’s add-on is native, which scores 100.

How we measured

Route is 70 percent. SlidesAI’s PowerPoint and Google Slides add-ons score 100 because no export step is needed, though that is the vendor’s own description of the add-ons. Decktopus’s export is available on Pro and Business, so it scores 60.

Limits is 30 percent. Neither vendor’s export page on the retrieval date listed a limitation, so both score 100. That is a fact about the pages, not a test of the files. Both vendors describe their own output in favourable terms, and we score those descriptions as claims.

The price caveat

SlidesAI’s pricing page shows a Basic plan at $0 and a Pro plan billed at $120 per year, but its structured data gives a different annual figure for the same plan. Because the two figures conflict, this post does not quote a paid SlidesAI price. Check the current number before you buy.

Who each tool fits

Choose SlidesAI if your team lives in PowerPoint or Google Slides and wants the generator inside the file. The free plan lets you test the route, but the Basic allowance is small, so check the number of presentations before a project starts.

Choose Decktopus if you want one editor for generation and export, and you accept that the PPT comes only after you pay. Check the export on a Pro trial using the same brief you would send a client, and open the result in PowerPoint before you promise the file.

What the test leaves open

We did not generate the same deck in both products. We did not open either export in PowerPoint on Windows or Mac, and we did not test how notes and fonts survive. The limits score for both tools is an inventory of what the vendor pages list, and the Decktopus blog makes stronger claims about PPT quality that we did not count. The SlidesAI comparison table compares it with competitors, and we did not use it as evidence.

Bottom line

For a deck that should be a .pptx from the first click, the in-app route is the one the method rewards, and SlidesAI documents it. Decktopus is a credible PPT exporter on a paid plan. Test each on one real slide before you commit, because the file you open in PowerPoint is the one that matters.

Rules: methodology. Pairs: versus index.

FAQ

Can I test the .pptx route on SlidesAI for free?

SlidesAI's pricing page lists a Basic plan at $0 with a yearly allowance of presentations and AI credits. Its add-ons for PowerPoint and Google Slides are the route that keeps the deck in .pptx from the start.

Can I export a Decktopus deck for free?

No. Decktopus's help says the first deck is free, but it cannot be exported and carries a watermark. Export requires a paid plan.

Which file does Decktopus export?

Decktopus lists PDF, PPT and PNG exports. Its help describes the PPT as fully editable in PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides. That is the vendor's description, and we have not re-tested it.

Why does SlidesAI score higher?

SlidesAI's route is an in-app add-on, which scores 100 under our rubric. Decktopus's route is a paid PPT export, which scores 60. Both have no limits listed on the pages we read, so the difference comes from the route.
